Hiring A Skip: Where Can You Keep Your Skip

Skip On Public Property
Whether you’re clearing out the garage, building a new extension or knocking down a house, skip hire will be one of your first considerations. Placement of a skip is something that should be well thought out. Logistically, it needs to be in a convenient spot for the work you’re doing. However, some places aren’t appropriate, or need a license. Before we go into the details of where you can keep your skip, lets look at the different types of skips you can hire and where they would be used.

Different Size Skips And Their Uses

R & C Skip Hire & Grab Hire offers two separate size skips which are suitable for a variety of jobs. Both types of skip have the same material permissions, so the defining factor for your choice will come down to the scale of the job you’re doing.

4 Yard Skip

The 4 yard skip is best suited for domestic or small construction jobs. For instance, if you are de-cluttering your house or having minor garden renovations. A 4 cubic yard volume equates to approximately 30 – 40 bin bags.

8 Yard Skip Hire

Often referred to as a ‘builder’s skip’ The 8 yard is suited for just that – builders. If you’re renovating some rooms or building an extension, then this size is advised for you. It has an estimated volume of between 60 – 80 bin bags, and will be delivered to you at a time of your choosing.

Where Can You Keep Your Skip?

The great thing about skip hire is that most of the time you don’t need any licenses to use one. A skip that is placed on private property, such as on your driveway or in your garden, is not dictated by regulations. However, sometimes you don’t have enough room on your property, especially if you are ordering one of our larger skips. If this is the case, then hope is not lost. All you have to do is apply for a skip license here. It’s straight forward and quick process. Generally it takes about two days for the license to be granted. It’s important to bear in mind there are certain restrictions if you’re keeping the skip you hire on public property. It cannot block pavements, and if it’s in a somewhat dangerous position, then you need to mark it accordingly.

Marking consists of the following:

It’s important to know that you could be fined if you ignore these restrictions.
